Should the Project Manager try to “stand out”?

Whoever does something with the goal of “standing out” has a goal which is different from the official one: in a few words, he/she is going in another direction. That is highly detrimental to the project; as a consequence, it is detrimental to the project manager’s reputation.

If one is really good, he/she will “stand out” as a Project Manager without even thinking about it.
